A recently completed commission from a series of bindings produced for a local Poet. The title, '' Stranger Things Have Happened '', is his second volume of verse. The binding was formatted in the Library Style with a Hollow-Back spine with false raised bands, split board attachment and ' common-made ', Cockerell hand marbled endpapers. Finishing details such as a two colour, handsewn headband and marker ribbon were also incorporated. The Title was hand tooled onto the upper board using a 22pt size Elizabethan font to echo the traditional characteristics of the binding required by the client.. The abstract tool pattern utilized on both the upper board as an inlaid panel and on the spine, was a deliberated choice to invoke the introspective aspect of being inspired to write about life experiences.
When an author's Fine Edition has been completed, it is often advised that some form of protection should be provided for the book. The common format is usually either the Drop Back Box, (sometimes called Clam Shell) , or Slip Case container. The covering presentation can be in a combination of materials to complement the contents subject as depicted above.
